Big deals, spring’s thrills, big wheels, sounds to chill… read on for your weekend in #JXNMS

Kevin Daniel & Seth Power – Hal & Mal’s – Friday, 7 p.m.
Dubbed “The Southern Word Tour,” you can be sure this pair of songsmiths have something to say. While Power doesn’t like to be boxed into a genre, he says his music is “music that is honest, resonates with myself and others, and has the kind of melodies and production that I like to hear as a listener.” Daniel is described as Americana, a sound that echoes the “everyman vibe of Tom Petty while conjuring the gut-busting grooves of Drive-by Truckers.”

JXN Flea – Duling Hall – Saturday, 11 a.m.
Fondren has flea… too easy. With winter weather being sort of shifty and all, The Flamingo – presenters of said Flea – are moving this market indoors. Local artisans and other vendors will be the highlight just like the Long Island Flea or Brooklyn Flea – both in New York – where the local incarnation takes its inspiration. It’s free and there’s certainly lunch or a beverage around any given corner.

The Home Show – Mississippi Trademart – Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.
Featuring over 200 exhibitors with thousands of new products, isn’t it about time you took on that reno project you’ve been putting off for years? The latest and greatest for home will be on display. And, nearly every booth has door prize drawings. You could win a super swanky gas grill: I did last year (true story). It’s $10 a day to get in, a bargain, especially if you win a big prize.

Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live – Mississippi Coliseum – Saturday, 12:30 p.m, 7 p.m.; Sunday, 1:30 p.m.
Your toy cars from childhood are all growed up and in the flesh, err, metal. Catch one of three monster truck shows, each of which will feature Bone Shaker™, Tiger Shark™, V8 Bomber™, Demo Derby and Hot Wheels® Racing #1. The show will also feature the King of Monster Trucks, Bigfoot® (all the ® and ™ cars under one roof?!?!) All event performances will include a special appearance from the car-eating, fire-breathing transforming robot Megasaurus, and the high-flyers of Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live, Freestyle Motocross. Ear plugs are a must. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.

An Evening with Sarah M. Broom, 2019 National Book Award Winner – Millsaps College, Saturday, 5:30 p.m. February 25
My bad…

William Matheny – Martins Downtown – Saturday, 10 p.m.
Rolling Stone calls Matheny’s music, “cerebral alt. country from an unusually versatile singer.” And, who would argue with The Rolling Stone?! Even NPR has good press on the guy: “Literary rock’n’roller William Matheny has a knack for spinning stores about roach-infested apartments and social anxiety into indie gold.” If that doesn’t sound like a good time, I’m not sure what does. It’s $10 at the door.
