Here’s to the Week Ahead: Oct. 26-Nov. 1

Halloween is the theme for several activities this week with a dose of art, food and comedy thrown in for good measure. Celebrate safely!
Artist Talk with Adrienne Dominick – Virtual – Tuesday 7 p.m.
Join the Mississippi Museum of Art for an artist talk with Adrienne Dominick – a visual artist from Mississippi whose work is an exploration of sound, light, and bold colors through paint on a variety of surfaces – in celebration of the closing week of her exhibition, “Dear Jazz” at the Hall Gallery at Millsaps College.
District Thursdays – Fall Edition – The District at Eastover – Thursday 6 p.m.
Celebrate Halloween at The District with a Halloween Pet Parade from Chipper & CoCo (bring your dressed-up pet); live music from Jenna D’Shay + Brice Pastorchik; specialty food and drinks by Cultivation Food Hall and the release party for Inaka Tea. The City of Jackson mask mandate requires a facial covering when not eating or drinking, and social distancing.
Park After Dark – Mississippi Children’s Museum – Friday 6 p.m.
Dress up in your favorite costume and find spooky science and fantastic family fun activities at this special evening event. MCM After Dark offers a great place to trick or treat, while also experiencing the museum after dark. Make your way through a spiderweb obstacle course, create watercolor spiderwebs and bat headbands, plus there will be prizes for best costumes. Masks are required for admission and will be provided for those who need one. Social distancing and use of hand sanitizer is required. Due to limited occupancy, purchase tickets ($10) online before the event.
Costumes and Cocktails – Old Capitol Inn Rooftop Bar – Friday 5 p.m.
Halloween weekend rolls in with costume and cocktails night at Old Capitol Inn’s Rooftop Bar wirh drink specials and specialty cocktails.
Spooktacular Drive-Through – VA Legion Softball Complex – Saturday 3 p.m.
The City of Jackson’s Parks and Rec Department will offer a free “Spooktacular Drive-Through” treat bag giveaway for children ages 10 years old and under while supplies last at the VA Legion Softball Complex at 4500 Officer Thomas Catchings Senior Drive. Costumes are welcome. Remember, children must be in a vehicle and wear facial coverings.
Guy Torry Live – Chuckle’s Comedy House – Friday, Saturday and Sunday 7:30 p.m.
Comedian, actor and radio personality Guy Torry is taking over this weekend at this North Jackson comedy club. Enjoy good food, great drinks and gut-wrenching laughter. Safety guidelines are strictly enforced. A two item minimum purchase and casual dress required.
Trick-or-Treat – Two Mississippi Museums – Saturday 10 a.m.
Discover mysteries from Mississippi’s past with the museums’ scavenger hunt, and visit their social-distanced trick-or-treat stations placed throughout the building for spirited holiday fun. Admission is free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Belhaven Bites & Stroll Tour featuring Elvie’s Restaurant – Belhaven Neighborhood – Saturday 2 p.m.
Home of Belhaven University, Eudora Welty’s home & amazing architecture & restaurants, this fun tour takes you through the neighborhood of Belhaven, incorporated into the City of Jackson in 1925. The tour begins and ends at Elvie’s (809 Manship Street) with a drink presentation and a few snacks at the end. Refreshments will be served along the route and are included in the price. Bring your own drink koozies or cups (they are provided as well). Tickets are $67 each.
