Heading into this week with a zen start: from yoga tat Welty to Cinco de Mayo, crawfish, music and more, JXN, let’s make it a good one!
Yoga in the Welty Garden – Tuesday 7 am
Jennifer Rose, Welty House Education Specialist and certified yoga instructor, will lead gentle community yoga classes on the Welty House front lawn each Tuesday in May from 7-7:30 a.m. Practitioners of all levels, ages 12 and up, are welcome. Bring a towel, mat, water bottle, and comfortable clothing. Participants will be asked to socially distance and wear masks when not on the mat. Classes are free with a suggested donation. City With Soul Spotlight Series – JXN Welcome Center – Wednesday 11 am
The City With Soul Spotlight Series returns to the JXN Welcome Center (308 E. Pearl Street), just in time for National Travel & Tourism Week (May 2-8). Take 21% off all merchandise, all-day (in-store only), hear music from singer-songwriter Jason Turner and purchase lunch from the One Guy Steak and Chicken food truck, on-site during the event. CDC and City of Jackson guidelines require facial coverings and social distancing during the event.
Cinco de Mayo – multiple locations – Wednesday
Enjoy tacos (at Yo Mama’s Tacos & Tapasa & Roux) + margaritas, Sangria and Mexican Beer and live Music at Cultivation Food Hall. At Green Ghost Tacos in Fondren, the Cinco De Mayo Fiesta features music from Carlos and Cucho and food and drink specials, too.
The Second Boil – Cathead Distillery – Saturday – Noon
Celebrating the launch of Cathead Sparkling, enjoy crawfish served by Sal & Phil’s, live music by the Little Willer Farmer starting at 2:30 pm, craft + domestic beer with a special offering of Abita, Hal & Mal’s bar services, and the new canned cocktails available in Limeade, Strawberry Lemonade, Satsuma Mandarin and Cranberry flavors. This outdoor event is free, all ages and pups are welcome and masks will be encouraged.
More Than a Tourist Highland Village Tour – Highland Village – Saturday – 1:30 pm
Get a special behind-the-scenes shopping and food experience. Featured shops Brooks Collection Vault, Red Square Clothing, A Daisy a Day and Coffee Prose will treat tour participants like royalty and delicious sample bites at Char, Aplos and BRAVO! are part of the tour that includes the history behind the legendary village. Tickets are $70.
Sipps & Sounds – The District at Eastover – Saturday 6 pm
Join The District every second Saturday from 6-8 pm outside on the green. This week’s live music is from The Remedy. Grab dinner and drinks from Fine & Dandy, Sal & Mookie’s or Cultivation Food Hall.
Southern Showdown Hip Hop Show – MS Coliseum – Saturday 8 pm
In the first hip-hop concert that blends the biggest stars in hip-hop with the biggest local artists, influential headliners – Mulatto aka Big Latto, Boosie, Money Mu – and newcomers take the stage. Tickets, starting at $60 before fees, are available on Ticketmaster.
