Here’s to the Week Ahead: April 5-11

With crawfish season in full swing, there’s no better time to get your fill than this week’s Mississippi Mudbug Festival at the fairgrounds. Maybe you’re looking for something more laid back? This week, JXN provides options for revelers, intellectuals and sports fans alike.
Mississippi Mudbug Festival – Mississippi Fairgrounds – Wednesday-Sunday – April 7-11
The Mississippi State Fairgrounds will play host to the inaugural Mississippi Mudbug Festival featuring live music, amusement rides, and crawfish, sponsored in part by Visit Jackson. Live entertainment will feature Frank Foster, Doctor Zarr, Chad Wesley, Fordie Hays and J Edwards. Full details including parking fees, ride wrist bands, concert tickets and more can be found here.
Trivia Night – Highland Village – Friday 7 p.m.
Themes, prizes, snacks & libations are highlights of this monthly trivia event in The Plaza next to Beagle Bagel. Your first craft beer is on Highland Village. This is a 21+ event.
JSU vs Alabama A & M – Saturday – 2 pm
The Tigers take on Alabama AM in this Saturday afternoon game. General admission tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com ($23 before fees).
Second Saturday, Sips & Sounds – Saturday – Highland Village (2 pm) and The District at Eastover (6 pm)
In the Le Fleur East neighborhood, lifestyle shopping centers are aplenty. Explore both the second Saturday of each month! At Highland Village, themed “Second Saturdays” begin at 2 pm, this month dubbed the Spring Spritzer featuring Aperol. From food to retailer open houses, this all-ages playdate makes for a perfect spring afternoon. Nearby, at The District at Eastover, the 6pm “Sips & Sounds” puts live music from Victoria Lynn alongside food and drink from Fine & Dandy and Cultivation Food Hall (and next month, Sal & Mookie’s). The District Green comes alive with children playing and adults socializing. Both events are free to attend.
MS Capital City Pride Drag Brunch – Sunday – Hal & Mal’s – Noon
Hosted by Courtney Cruise and featuring Areon Houston Bonet, Erin Steele, Savanna Sanchez, the event features a drag show, brunch and drinks. Tickets range from $15 (show only) to $40 (show, brunch and unlimited drinks).
