It’s a book and plant lovers, fundraising, foodie, festive week ahead in #JXNMS!
Welty Home Birthday Celebration – Tuesday – 9am – 4pm
Take a free tour (by reservation) of the most intact literary home in America to celebrate famed Jackson writer Eudora Welty’s birthday. While you’re there, the garden tour is also free!
The Museum Store Plant Sale – MS Museum of Art – Thursday 10 am
Take home a piece of The Museum’s Art Garden during the annual plant sale, featuring varieties of plants native to Mississippi, including those propagated from The Art Garden.
Over The Edge with Friends of Children’s Hospital – The District at Eastover – Saturday 8 am
Want to rappel over the edge of a five-story building, all for a good cause? Saturday’s event hopes to raise $175,000 to support the sick and injured children of Batson Children’s Hospital and Children’s of Mississippi. Their will be music, family fun and more.
Heirloom Plant Sale – Welty House – Saturday 9 am
Cereus Weeder garden volunteers propagate plants from Welty’s original garden for purchase during the plant sale, many of which are no longer commonly available in nurseries—including fragrant butterfly ginger, heirloom day lilies, and irises. In addition to Welty garden propagates, hard-to-find heirloom shrubs, annuals, and perennials featured in the Welty garden are also sourced for purchase. Masks and social distancing are required on site.
Fondren Foodie Tour w More Than a Tourist – Green Ghost Tacos – Saturday 1:30 pm
This tour focuses on the restaurant scene in the Fondren Neighborhood. Stops and tasting sites include Green Ghost Tacos, Aladdin, Brent’s Drugs, The Pig and Pint, Barrelhouse, Rooster’s and Fondren Public. The $90 ticket includes all tastings (water or tea included), tax & gratuity, a bottled water and a tour of the area.
Magnolia Sunset Market – Foot Print Farms – Saturday 4-7 pm
The Magnolia Sunset Markets, a curated urban marketplace mixed with artisans, local produce, food, and music is set outdoors at Foot Print Farms. The market will take place every third Saturday through the end of the year, weather permitting. Entry is $5 (per vehicle – advance pay here); receive a $5 food voucher when you spend $10 on fresh produce with Foot Print Farms.
Art Party 2021 – Virtual – Saturday
The Mississippi Museum of Art will host an online watch party and silent auction. Auction items will be on view at MMA until Monday, April 19. See them in person and view the newest exhibit Piercing the Inner Wall: The Art of Dusti Bongé.
