City Announces Special Election For Ward 2 Council Vacancy

The City of Jackson has set a special election for November 17, 2020, to fill a vacancy left by Councilman Melvin Priester who resigned effective Monday, October 5.
The Department of Municipal Clerk will be open October 12- 16, 2020 for voter registration from 8 am – 7 pm and Saturday, October 17 from 8 am-noon to be eligible to vote in the November 17, 2020 Ward 2 special election.
The voter registration deadline is Saturday, October 17 at noon.
The last day to vote by absentee ballot is Saturday, November 14 at noon. To accommodate the absentee voting process the Department of Municipal Clerk will be open on November 7 from 8 am until noon and November 14 from 8 am-noon.
Interested candidates can pick up a qualifying application packet from the Department of Municipal 219 S. President Street between the hours of 8 am-5 p pm daily starting on October 12. The qualifying deadline is October 28 at 5pm.
Priester, who announced his intention to resign on Friday, October 2 to focus more on his law practice, served the city for seven years.
