After drawing over 4,500 visitors in 2018, The Mississippi Science Festival (MSF), the LeFleur Museum District’s (LMD) signature event, returns September 19-21, 2019.
MSF has been recognized by the Mississippi Tourism Association as “Small Festival of the Year” and a “Top 20 Event” by the Southeast Tourism Society.
The weekend features three-days full of science exploration and activities, with exhibitors stationed across all four LMD museums – the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum, the Mississippi Children’s Museum, and the MDWFP’s Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.
This year, six separate events will take place:
C3 Jr. Coding Challenge presented by C Spire Thursday, September 19
Fifteen teams from across the state have been invited to the Mississippi Children’s Museum to participate in C3 Jr, a coding challenge uniquely designed for elementary age students. Teams comprised of four fourth grade students will be guided through coding challenges by a C Spire Mentor, treated to lunch compliments of C Spire, and participate in an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the challenge.
Science After 6 Thursday, September 19; 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
The community is invited to help kick off the 4th annual MSF at one of Jackson’s coolest gathering spots, Cultivation Food Hall at The District at Eastover, for Science After 6. Tickets are $5 each and include bits and bytes by Cultivation Food Hall vendors and one signature cocktail compliments of Gold Coast Bar and Cathead Distillery. This event is sponsored by C Spire and Southern Farm Bureau.
Field Trip Friday Friday, September 20; 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
In partnership with MSF, the four LMD museums are inviting students to attend a special STEM-themed Field Trip Friday. Book your field trip by contacting any one of the four museums.
CSI Mississippi Friday, September 20; 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
MSF is proud to host CSI: Mississippi, a new MSF event which will feature a behind-the-scenes look at the career of Forensic Scientist George Schiro, Mississippi’s very own CSI investigator. This free event will take place at the MS Agriculture and Forestry Museum’s Sparkman Auditorium.
Mississippi Science Fest Saturday, September 21; 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
