JXN Dog Makes People’s ‘Cutest Dog’ Top Ten

A local travel agent says her dog is ready to make JXN proud.
Jane Jones’s rescue pup, Lunas, has made it to the top 10 for People’s “World’s Cutest Rescue Dog Contest” presented by Pedigree.
The winning dog will receive $1,000 towards their rescue organization (in Lunas’s case, that organization is Cheshire Abbey).
Based on the votes, the top three dogs will move on. Celebrity judges Carrie Ann Inaba from Dancing with the Stars and The Talk, singer-songwriter Cassadee Pope, and Good Morning America’s Lara Spencer, along with judges from People and Pedigree, will choose the winner.
Jones says that Lunas’s story with her begins in early 2014 when Swell-O-Phonic owner, Chane, was eating outside at a neighborhood restaurant.
“This dirty little pup with a snaggle tooth walked up with no fear and put his paws on Chane’s knee,” Jones recounts.
Chane phoned friend and Cheshire Abbey owner, Chrissy Cheshire, to take the dog in and help to get him adopted.
A vet visit found that Lunas’s jaw was broken, likely the result of abuse.
Originally named “Kermit,” Jones saw a picture of the dog on Facebook.
“I was not even looking for a dog and my job as General Manager of Hal and Mal’s at the time kept me busy and working late nights, she says. “But something tugged at my heartstrings and I immediately called (Cheshire Abbey) to ask about his situation. I just knew he was supposed to be mine.”
Lunas’s name comes from Jones’s love of the art and history of France.
“He was white/slightly albino like the moon and had these blue eyes that could change black or red. Luna – lunar – was for a girl, so Lunas it was.”
Lunas is now Jones’s constant companion, even accompanying her for tours with her business, More Than a Tourist.
Jones’s message when considering a dog?
“All animals are precious, but I urge you to consider a rescue dog.”
Voting opens on Sept. 2 at – people.com/worlds-cutest-rescue-dog-contest – and runs through Sept. 14.
Lunas will be at Fondren Pet Shop Wednesday, Sep. 9 from 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm and Hollywood Feed at Highland Village on Saturday, Sep. 12.
Come get your picture with LUNAS and/or get your People Magazine signed for $5 (it comes out Friday, Sep. 4). All proceeds go to Cheshire Abbey.
